Interesting view on the trend of companies recruiting researchers away from universities, particularly for artificial intelligence work. These researchers have the benefits of better salaries, access to large amounts of data, not having to secure grants, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact to millions (or billions) of people. It's possible that, at least in the field of AI, that universities will lose the critical base of top minds to teach the next generation and do cutting-edge research.
