IBM has already built a prototype predictive analytics system that can forecast the level of air quality in Beijing 72 hours in advance. The project will eventually leverage cognitive computing to go a step further, providing pollutant source tracking, ‘what-if’ scenario analysis, and decision support on emission reduction actions. These kind of analyses are now directly improving the quality of life for millions of people.
